Hi Sian. How exciting, is it Pulborough by any chance? I have two in PN there on Sunday.

Ok the most important thing is to be prepared as possible. You are bound to be a a bit more nervous due to the new challenge, but if you are a bit overprepared then you will be able to handle the nerves well. Use the nerves to make you sharper and more attentive to details.

Make sure you have a good groom/friend to help you even if you normally do it on your own, it will help you make sure you dont make a mistake due to nerves.

Walk the XC course twice if you can. Pay extra attention to your lines and more attention to the path you will take in regard to the time it takes. Novice speed is that litte bt faster and riding a line thats as direct as possible is a lot more relevant than at PN.

Remember to breathe in all three phases!

Ride forwards and attack your course, Im sure you usually do. but sometimes we lose the attack when we get nervous. Remember to get going straight out of the start box, every second counts!

Enjoy it! You are obviously ready or you wouldnt be tackling this level, so ride it positively and enjoy yourself. If the unexpected happens, dont give up, a small mistake can easily be made at your first novice, so be kind to yourself if anything goes wrong, just use any mistakes as learning opportunities, for that what they are.

Good Luck!!

Well... Dressage was slightly tense got bit of a dissapointing 40 pen. Went clear showjumping which i was very pleased with. But then x country we got as far as the trakener but, he has had an accident previously at a ditch and i dont think i rode it strong enough so got the big 'E'! but i got him him over it in the end. So this winter will be spent practising i think! Cant wait to start again next season. How did you do?

Hi there.
Well done for clear SJ, thats no mean feat at all. I was 7th in OPN on old horse, 17 years old, he was a good boy, but he finished lame and has slight tear in flexor tendon, so hes off for winter and at his age its unclear if he will event again, he does lots of dressage, but had got very stale so we evented him again to make life more interesting, he used to go novice but that became too much, so he reited to mostly dressage, might be retiring to dressage again! the other mare did her first Pn after a year off, and she was 13th or something like that, had 2 down sj, she was in shock having ahd juts one intro as a warm up! Rosa went to Tweseldown and managed double clear for a 6th the next week, so very pleased with her.

Next we have some BSJA coming up, and i have the ride on a retired Badminton horse for that as well...hes lovely but a bit fast. hard to steer indoors. but he steps over the fences, and i have to take him foxhunters in order to be eligible ;-)

Have fun over winter.
Best

Lisa

Shame about your horse doing its flexor, at least it happened at the end of the season, hope he does make a sound recovery.
